Bad hair day? Don’t despair! Here are my top 3 oils for hair conditioning. There are many benefits in using carrier oils as part of your daily natural hair care routine. You can either do a once a week as a deep treatment by leaving the oil for one hour or better overnight before washing the next day. You can also use the carrier oil of your choice after shampooing by massaging your wet hair with a small amount as a leave in conditioner. A teaspoon of the oil for long hair or less for shorter hair will do the trick! Remember, for extra shine and not to damage your hair, it’s always better to let your hair dry naturally instead of using the hair drier but well…unfortunately we don’t all live in the Caribbean, do we?
1. Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil is full of vitamins ( A, B1, B2, D, E, and Beta carotene) and also contains amino acids, sterols, pantothenic acid, lecithin, and other essential fatty acids. Avocado oil works great for dry, rough and brittle hair as a deep conditioning. Oh and did you know it is also a natural sunscreen (SFP 4 to 15 depending on the oil quality)?
2. Argan Oil
This Moroccan is rich in omega 3 and 9 fatty acids, it is also perfect for rough
and dry hair. I love how it tames my frizz oils for hair conditioning and moisturise without leaving my hair greasy. Be careful when buying Argan oil, since there is a lot of hype around this oil, a lot of companies are using the name argan on the packaging and not even using the argan oil itself or it may only contain 5% of argan oil. Always buy 100% organic argan oil with no additives or preservatives! And trust your noise, argan oil has a somewhat nutty, spicy and oily scent which you may find unpleasant.
3. Camelia seed oil
Another favourite of mine as it leaves my hair smooth and shiny. It is great for all hair, even fine hair as it does not leave a greasy film and absorbs quite rapidly. It is one of the best kept secrets in the cosmetic and hair care industry, try for yourself!
You can buy organic avocado oil, argan oil and camelia seed carrier oils here.
Hey crafty friends, now tell me what natural oils or other home-made tricks and oils for hair conditioning do YOU use in your hair to make them feel smooth and shiny? i’m all ears!
