    Orange syrup cake recipe


    For the cake:
    1 cup butter, room temperature
    2 cups powdered sugar
    4 eggs
    1/3 cup fresh orange juice
    1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 Tablespoon baking powder
    1/2 Tablespoon orange zest

    For the orange syrup:
    1 cup fresh orange juice
    2 cups sugar
    1 cinnamon stick
    2 whole cloves


    - Preheat oven to 180˚C (350˚F).
    - Grease rectangular cake pan with butter, dust with some flour, and shake off excess.
    - Cream butter with sugar in bowl of electric mixer on medium speed.
    - Gradually add eggs (one after another) to the butter mixture, continue beating, and add orange juice.
    - Mix flour, baking powder and orange zest, gradually add this mixture to the previous one.
    - Fold mixture using a wooden spoon till well combined.
    - Pour batter into prepared pan.
    - Bake for 45 minutes, or until done.
    - Meanwhile, prepare Sugar Syrup:
    - Dissolve sugar in orange juice in a saucepan over medium heat.
    - Add cinnamon and cloves.
    - Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, or until thickened.
    - Make holes in the cake using toothpick; pour syrup over warm cake in pan.
    - Garnish cake with orange or mandarin segments and serve.
