    How to make simple sugar syrup



    In a saucepan over medium heat, mix 2 parts sugar with 1 part water, adding few drops of lemon juice to thicken it. Let simmer for 10 minutes, then increase heat to
    medium and boil for 5 minutes. Strain into an airtight container and let cool. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
    For added flavor, add lemon peel, orange blossom water, rose water, bay leaves, cloves, or cinnamon sticks just before bringing the syrup to a boil.
    For thicker syrup, use three parts sugar and one part water, then proceed as directed above.
